Default Enhancement Request: Items that cannot be salvaged should state it (or something)

I am not sure I understand why certain items cannot be salvaged...there is no good reason (that I can think of) nor is there any way to identify such an item.

If the deal is: you _should not_ be able to salvage quest rewards (those damn smiting staffs that you get for completing everything) then perhaps they should be tagged as "quest reward" similar to how "quest items" are tagged?

A good example: A paid 300gp for a bow of fortitude hoping to salvage the fortitude grip (knowing my chance for failure with the salvage could end in wood). I purchased it from a guy, and went to salvage it and it said "this item cannot be salvaged." So I wasted 300gp because the bow itself was pretty useless (dmg was like 13-16 or something and mine is maxed at 26). I just wanted that grip, or bust.

What I didn't expect was to be, in a sense, "scammed." Now I am unsure if the person did it on purpose, or had no clue that it wasn't salvagable. I've had plenty of items in my inventory that I later found were not salvagable, and I could have easily sold them off without knowing. So its not really a "scam" unless its done on purpose I guess.

However, items that function differently then items of the same name should be noted just as quest items are. "Quest Reward" is one tag that could be used to seperate the salvagables from the non-salvagables...

Thanks,

Ah shit, just another way for scammers to get their shits and giggles. Never thought of that one.

well for starters don't trust anyone saying its salvageable. Second it's only salvageable if it has upgrades in it. Not all items do some just have special stats. Third its not always a sure thing you will salvage something out of it, it's chance, i had 3 good items that had 2 things in 2 of them and when i salvaged all i got was 1 of the 2 out of each.

Fourth and most important, make sure your using an expert salvage kit, cuz normal ones won't get things out of it!

Oh and a sure fire way to know its an item with components, is that if u loot it and you identify it and it says that u unlocked something then you KNOW something is in it.

Well to give more detail to my plea:

a) Nobody said it was salvageable; They said "WTS bow of fortitude blah blah blah" and my goal was to buy it cheap as possible and take my chances.

b) It doesn't have to be salvageable to have upgrades, I've seen people buy items just for the materials (i.e. wood with bows) if they can get a good rate. One guy wanted ebon spider webs so he could get armor from a collector to salvage it for the materials he needed for his more powerful armor. Its really up to the individual.

c) The reason I wanted a good deal on the bow was because I know the risk involved of _not_ getting the grip o' fortitude. One person might pay 500gp for a bow that they tought was great. I wanted no more then 300gp because then I could justify the "oh well, it was 300gp for a chance at the grip." Risk vs. reward: it all depends on how much you want to pay for that chance at it.

d) In general, its common knowledge that to get a bow grip you need an expert salvage kit. That, for me, was the "no brainer" -- my concern was that I have no clue if the item is even salvageable.

So, in short, I understand the risk/rewards/chances - those are constants. The only variable in the situation is "is this unmarked item going to allow for salvageability or not?" Where the answer would be a constant if the item was tagged "Quest Reward" because then I could make the decision "no thanks, I don't want to buy it" knowing that bullets a-d above do not qualify if the item cannot be salvaged in the first place.

It seems like a reasonable request seeing as there is no game inbalance, or danger to it. With the increased benifit that a) I can make the choices above (a-d) on my own and b) You cannot use this as a scamming technique at all. That's always nice.
